Inaugural Trellidor Mzansi Super Cup crowns champions and celebrates the future of South African football

The inaugural Trellidor Mzansi Super Cup brought together 16 youth football teams in Mpumalanga, providing a platform for young players to showcase their talent while promoting sportsmanship and community development. Sponsored by Trellidor, the tournament crowned U13 and U15 champions and reinforced the company's commitment to creating opportunities for South Africa's next generation of football stars.

Mbombela, Mpumalanga, 27 July 2026 – The inaugural Trellidor Mzansi Super Cup delivered an unforgettable weekend of youth football, with 16 teams, 24 matches and hundreds of young players showcasing their talent, determination and sportsmanship at Lowveld High School in Mbombela.

Hosted by Siyadlala Sports Management and proudly sponsored by Trellidor, the tournament brought together U13 and U15 teams from across the region to compete in what organisers hope will become a flagship platform for identifying and nurturing the next generation of South African football talent.

The event attracted several respected figures from South African football. Football legend Siyabonga Nomvethe attended the tournament through the support of Trellidor, while former Mamelodi Sundowns player and current Academy Coach and Scout, Themba Mnguni, spent time observing the young players and sharing his experience. Representatives from the Mbombela Local Football Association (MBOLFA) were also in attendance, underlining the significance of the tournament within the local football community.

The competition concluded with two exciting finals. Siyadlala Football Academy defeated Marite Young Sundowns FC to claim the U13 title, while Lafamilia Football overcame Chillies Sports Academy to lift the U15 trophy. Third-place honours went to Lafamilia Football in the U13 division and Ekasi Football Academy in the U15 competition. In addition to receiving gold medals, trophies and full training kits, both winning teams earned an all-expenses-paid opportunity to compete against the Mamelodi Sundowns Academy and the Africa Football School of Excellence in Gauteng, an experience that promises to further develop their skills and give the teams exposure to some of the country's strongest youth football programmes.

Individual excellence was also recognised throughout the tournament. In the U13 division, Blessing Malumane of Siyadlala Football Academy was named both Player of the Tournament and Top Goal Scorer, while teammate Khulekani Khumalo received the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.

In the U15 division, Nala Mabuza of Lafamilia Football was named Player of the Tournament, Sizwelethu Msimango of Ekasi Football Academy claimed the Top Goal Scorer award, and Manqoba Hlatshwayo of Lafamilia Football was recognised as Goalkeeper of the Tournament. The tournament also recognised promising young talent through a series of special Gold Medal Awards presented to emerging players identified by the tournament scouts, further reinforcing the event's focus on talent identification and player development.

According to tournament organiser Bongani Tshabalala, the success of the inaugural tournament exceeded expectations and demonstrated the value of investing in youth football.

The first Trellidor Mzansi Super Cup achieved exactly what we set out to do. We witnessed outstanding football, excellent sportsmanship and incredible support from players, coaches, parents, officials and the wider community. More importantly, we created a platform where young players could showcase their abilities and gain exposure to experienced football professionals.
